Gebaseerd op de 20th Century Fox-film The Greatest Showman, met een verhaal van Jenny Bicks, is dit de eerste 20th Century Studios (voorheen 20th Century Fox)-titel die is aangepast voor het toneel door Disney Theatrical Group en The Seelig Group, een producent van de originele film. De productie zet de langdurige relatie van Disney Theatrical voort met het Bristol Hippodrome waar Mary Poppins haar wereldpremière beleefde en de Britse tournees van The Lion King en Beauty and the Beast hun reizen begonnen.
